Exhibition “Arts & Crafts & Design. Time according to Alessandro Mendini and his artisans.” in partnership with The International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC) October 2013

Vacheron Constantin is deeply committed to supporting the world of culture, and art in particular. Partnering with the FIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair) for the first time at its 40th edition, Vacheron Constantin has presented the « Arts & Crafts & Design. Time according to Alessandro Mendini and his artisans» exhibition, from October 23 to 27, 2013 in Paris.

Through this exhibition, Vacheron Constantin seeks to initiate a dialogue between Fine Watchmaking and the world of design and artistic crafts.

This exhibition comprised thirteen works designed by Alessandro Mendini and crafted by famous Italian artisans using various materials. Its cultural ambition is to highlight the fundamental role played by artistic crafts in our society, including them in a permanently evolving dialogue with contemporary design.

As part of its commitment to the field of art and culture, Vacheron Constantin has committed to transform this project into a travelling exhibition, present in contemporary art and design reference locations and events. Once the exhibition tour is over, the works of art will be sold in favor or a project of an organisation dedicated to promoting artistic crafts.

The Manufacture also presented an exclusive French viewing of its new Métiers d’Art Les Univers Infinis Collection inspired by the work of Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. Admirably expressing the creativity of the Master Artists cherished by the Maison, these models illustrate the ties between watchmaking and culture that Vacheron Constantin has been perpetuating since its founding, as well as the subtle alchemy between the artistic crafts cultivated within the Manufacture: engraving, enamelling, gemsetting, guillochage and the more recently added technique of gold marquetry. This second chapter in the Métiers d’Art Les Univers Infinis Collection pursues the tribute to the graphic expression of the tessellation or periodic paving principle.
